ABOUT BOB
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Building Opportunities with Business (BOB) is a non-profit organization with the goal to support local business development and increase job opportunities for inner-city residents.
The inner-city communities encompass Vancouver's birthplace and include Chinatown, Strathcona, Oppenheimer, Victory Square, Gastown, Mount Pleasant and Downtown South. Rich in history, these important neighbourhoods offer numerous parks and public spaces, they contain creative and cultural districts, posses heritage structures and key infrastructure assets and most importantly of all a diverse and talented multi-cultural population. The downtown eastside has known prosperity but has seen economic decline over the years.
Today, revitalization and regeneration is occurring in the downtown eastside. Residents, businesses, community groups, governments and myriad organizations are working together to ensure that the local residents and businesses benefit from this renewed interest and investment in the area. BOB, along with our partners, is championing this Revitalization Without Displacement, or as it is also referred to, Inclusive Revitalization.
Vision
We believe in growing inclusive, vibrant and sustainable local economies. We apply the principles of Community Economic Development (CED). These principles include ensuring activities are led by community members to create economic opportunities and better social conditions for people in that community, especially for those who are traditionally most excluded.
Mission
BOB 2.0 connects, coordinates and provides supports to social entrepreneurs, social enterprises and mission based businesses. The organizations we support create jobs and opportunities to participate, with and for low income residents in the inner city. We strive to sustain ourselves in part through our own business and service activities.
